Team Aefsky
The event this year is hybrid again, but the location has changed! Unfortunately, Tony and I will not be able to make the in person event this year. If you do attend in person, please remember to wear purple in honor of mom :-)
The following information is about the surgery and treatment provided by Dr. Sardi and his team at Mercy Medical Center. Additionally, why this event is so important in raising funds and AWARENESS about the treatment.
Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a highly effective, concentrated, heated chemotherapy that is delivered directly to cancer cells in the abdomen- this cancer is known as peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC). The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy is one of only a handful of medical institutions in the country that offer this treatment and is dedicating extensive research to the use of HIPEC against cancers of the abdomen, organs within the abdominal cavity, and ovarian cancer.
"Heat It To Beat It" refers to this use of the heated chemotherapy. This event is our chance to give back and to raise awareness and much-needed funds to continue the research that brings us this life saving treatment.
We hope you will consider supporting us and this important cause by joining the team, registering to participate or making a donation.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
