Welcome to Cione's Corps
Hi!
It is that time again! This September, I will participate in the 15th Annual “Heat It To Beat It” event and you can be a part of it by making a donation on my fundraising page or by joining the team!
The team established is named after the beautiful, strong woman that I call Mom. She lost her battle with stage IV ovarian cancer that progressed to peritoneal carcinomatosis by the time it was identified. Due to the work by The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy, Dr. Sardi, Dr. Gushchin and their team and the HIPEC surgery, Mom has given 5 additional years. As a healthcare professional and the extensive research I have done on her diagnosis, this is 5 years that she wouldn't have had without this team behind her.
Below are the details about the Heat It to Beat It event that raises money for this team:
This event was launched eleven years ago to raise awareness and funds for research for a unique surgery and treatment of abdominal cancers.
The spread of cancer throughout the abdomen is known as peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC). A treatment called Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a highly effective, concentrated, heated chemotherapy that is delivered directly to the abdomen immediately after the surgical removal of advanced abdominal cancers. HIPEC is used to treat appendiceal, colon, and gynecologic cancers, as well as peritoneal mesothelioma. The HIPEC treatment helps eliminate any remaining cancer cells following the surgical removal of the disease.
The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy is one the top medical institutions in the United States that offers HIPEC treatment and is dedicating extensive research to increase HIPEC awareness and understanding with the medical community.
“Heat It To Beat It” refers to the heated chemotherapy that we use, which is essential in beating this type of cancer! This event is our vehicle to raise awareness and the necessary funds to continue advancing medicine through research and promoting this life saving treatment.
I hope you will consider supporting this important cause by joining my team (in-person or virtually), registering to participate, or by directly making a donation and sharing so others to show their support!
Your support is appreciated!
With lots of love,
Monica
