Welcome to Michael's Militia

Donate Now

This September, my family and I will participate in the 15th Annual “Heat It To Beat It” event and you can be a part of it by making a donation on my fundraising page!

As an added incentive, contributions to our team of $100 or more will entitle you to a custom t-shirt.  I hope that you will sport our team’s cool logo at the grocery store, gym, work Zoom, etc.  - even better, if you are able to join us for the walk on Sunday, September 22nd!!!

  • Michael's Militia was knocked of its perch as the top team - as I approach my 5th anniversary of being cancer free, lets retake the title!

Because of Dr. Armando Sardi, the Mercy Hospital team and the HIPEC treatment, I have been given a chance at a full life. In May 2020, I was diagnosed with an advanced case of a rare and incurable cancer - appendix cancer.  In June 2020, I underwent a surgery that included a HIPEC treatment. I am about to reach my 2 year anniversary - which means I have a 70% chance my incurable cancer will not reoccur.  Nothing short of a miracle, as my prognosis at diagnosis did not include this outcome!

As a result of this journey, I have learned a lot about this disease and its treatment.  I've also learned about what Dr. Sardi, and his amazing team, do to raise awareness, help the most difficult cases and charitable works abroad.

As you consider your charitable giving this year, I hope you will support these efforts. And to better understand the nuts and bolts of the disease, please read the organizer's description:

The spread of cancer throughout the abdomen is known as peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC). A treatment called Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a highly effective, concentrated, heated chemotherapy that is delivered directly to the abdomen immediately after the surgical removal of advanced abdominal cancers.  HIPEC is used to treat appendiceal, colon, and gynecologic cancers, as well as peritoneal mesothelioma.   The HIPEC treatment helps eliminate any remaining cancer cells following the surgical removal of the disease.

The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy is one of the top medical institutions in the United States that offers HIPEC treatment and is dedicating extensive research to increase HIPEC awareness and understanding with the medical community.

“Heat It To Beat It” refers to the heated chemotherapy that we use, which is essential in beating this type of cancer! This event is our vehicle to raise awareness and the necessary funds to continue advancing medicine through research and promoting this life saving treatment.

I hope you will consider supporting this important cause by joining my team, registering to participate, or by directly making a donation!

Your support is appreciated!
