Cione's Corps
This September, our Team will participate in the 15th annual "Heat It To Beat It" event and you can be a part of it by making a donation on our Team Fundraising page! This event was launched to raise awareness of and research funds for a unique surgery and treatment of abdominal cancers.
The team established is named after the beautiful, strong woman that I call Mom. She lost her battle with stage IV ovarian cancer that progressed to peritoneal carcinomatosis by the time it was identified. Due to the work by The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy, Dr. Sardi, Dr. Gushchin and their team and the HIPEC surgery, Mom has given 5 additional years. As a healthcare professional and the extensive research I have done on her diagnosis, this is 5 years that she wouldn't have had without this team behind her.
Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a highly effective, concentrated, heated chemotherapy that is delivered directly to cancer cells in the abdomen- this cancer is known as peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC). The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy is one of only a handful of medical institutions in the country that offer this treatment and is dedicating extensive research to the use of HIPEC against cancers of the abdomen, organs within the abdominal cavity, and ovarian cancer.
"Heat It To Beat It" refers to this use of the heated chemotherapy. This event is our chance to give back and to raise awareness and much-needed funds to continue the research that brings us this life saving treatment.
We hope you will consider supporting us and this important cause by joining the team, registering to particpate or making a donation.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
