On Sunday, September 22nd, I will participate in the 15th Annual “Heat It To Beat It” event and you can be a part of it by making a donation on my fundraising page! This event was launched fifteen years ago to raise awareness and funds for research for a unique surgery and treatment of abdominal cancers.

The spread of cancer throughout the abdomen is known as peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC). A treatment called Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a highly effective, concentrated, heated chemotherapy that is delivered directly to the abdomen immediately after the surgical removal of advanced abdominal cancers. HIPEC helps eliminate any remaining cancer cells following the surgical removal of the disease. 

HIPEC saved my good friend, Rebecca's, life, allowed her to grow her family, and continue being a powerhouse in the railroad industry. Over 7 years ago, she was diagnosed with appendiceal cancer and HIPEC was part if her intensive treatment in the fight for her life. Dr. Sardine and his team performed the surgery and continued to provide her the best care. Today, she has clean scans and a one year old son, Elijah, who is her heart and joy. I have joined their team so we can bring this joy to others. 

The “Heat It To Beat It” event is our vehicle to raise awareness and the necessary funds to continue advancing medicine through research and promoting this life saving treatment.
